greys rods which ones to buy

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

greys rods which ones to buy

#1 Post by patk »

hi everyone i am about to buy new rods. relatively recent beach and more specifically bass angler(18 months). Now at the stage i know my rods arent great having come from flyfishing thought they were all big poles! how little i knew. I see my cheap rods bounce around in wind and surf and tide the reel seats jam etc. I fish for bass on beaches mostly so clean ground. i use fixed spool reels and have spent last while googling and searching reviews etc and because of this and i flyfish with greys rods im leaning there. Im thinking of getting either the grey grx s 13ft 5oz or the greyflex s 13ft 5oz for the distance of two in the tripod. the greyflex is more expensive is it worth it? then for a lighter more subtle rod the greys bze 12' 6" 5oz for the near rod and one that could be used for wandering a beach rather than stuck to a tripod if that makes sense? any thoughts much appreciated oh and the best prices i have found which are my budget are 90 sterling for grxs 117st for greyflex s and 99st for bze thanks tight lines pat

dont know about the others but the bze is a cracking little rod for the price and will stand you well for the close in work in calm to moderate conditions
species for 2009 (42)
species for 2010 (27)
species for 2011 (12)
species for 2012 (8)
best advice for catching species is girls dont like fishing and its hard to catch fish when you sell all your gear'

Pat,

I have a amongst other rods (multiplier) a grx-s (130euro), a triplex (250euro), and a platinum xs(400 euro) and can't fault any of em for bass fishing on fairly clean beaches which is wot i do a lot. I think there are two new versions out - the grx-s bass and platinum bass for lighter leads so these mite be worth investigating against the bze. Your prices seem very good in relation to what i paid.

I'd echo the other guys comments about the 3-5 oz Bze, it really is a great little rod and a very versatile bit of kit.

thanks for that lads will go ahead with the bze from what ye say. just does anyone know the difference other than 20 quid between the greys s and the greyflex s ? they are both for 5oz though some say casting 3 to 6 oz. a rod i have is 3 to 6 oz and seems to do me ok getting a 6oz out despite its faults in heavier conditions. Do people use a lead heavier than recommended on occasion? i think i wouldnt want to fish much heavier and have never used more than 6 oz?

just thinking again now from what you say shoreking would the bze and the other rods be much the same thing? I thought the others were that bit stronger or what rod might be in the greys range thaks pat

they are all nice rods but like their fly rods a lot of people have broken their greys rods. you might want to look at other brands.

The ones I am talking about are new bass versions of the existing models. You would have to look them up and see wot you think. I have only ever broken one section of the 3 rods (my own fault) and they replaced it under warranty for a small enough sum. Fail to see how shore rods and fly rods compare? Mostly people break rods - they dont tend to break themselves.
