wire traces

#1 Post by ian 123 »

Hi I was wondering can you use wire traces when lure fishing snaggy marks.
by wire traces i mean : swivel-length of wire-snap link. I was going to tie this straight onto my main line. is this any good or should I just use a heavy leader? I also tought the wire traces would be good because it would allow me to switch lures fast. does anyone set up like this? cheers,Ian

I don't think that using a wire trace will really be of much benefit to you when fishing around snaggy marks, as your mainline will still be the weakest link and snap leaving your lure and wire trace in the snag. Also I find wire traces affect the action of some lures so I only use them when I need to, basically for pike fishing. Personally for my lure fishing the set-up I use would be 20 - 30lb braid mainline with a 2-3' leader of 15lb fluorocarbon/mono, to which you could attach a link or link swivel. In this case the purpose of the leader is to provide abrasion resistance and to be less visible than braid. So if its abrasion resistance that concerned about you could possibly try using a heavier mono/fluorocarbon leader instead of the wire trace.

I've been using powerpro for years without problems. I get mine here:

This guy used to sell through eBay but has a dedicated site now. Never had any problems with quality. Fast delivery and good service.
