Prawns/Shrimp

I know from a few posts that some people are using prawns for bait. I don't usually fish for other species besides the old bass that often but when I fish for other things like flounder I often use prawns.

But, wot I have done in the past and it has been quite successful is to get the dyed shrimp/prawn (brightest red ones) that the salmon river anglers use and pull off the head and tail and use a bit to tip off lug, fish etc. I have found that fish attracted to colour can really go for it. It is a bit like the glow grub suggestion but you are using a bit of prawn.

There is then the option of dyeing the things a whole host of colours yourself - red, blue, green etc and adding colour and scent at the same time.

sounds like a good tip.... pardon the pun, one thing you wouldnt hear much of is using live prawn as bait.....meant to be deadly in the right areas

and the answer to yer question is "any legal method" - probably not

have used prawn from dunnes for wrasse, they seem to like it i suppose due to colour and texture etc its similar to crab and thats the reason.

have use the red shrimp float fishing for bass a have got a few as you said it all depends on location i fished like as if i was salmon fishing and in recent times have had good place on dunnes stores prawns.

sounds good, must give it a go i think you can buy them dyed in some shops.

Most shops that do salmon stuff would have em. If you know anyone who fishes em for salmon they should be able to give you some dyed ones. Just check em first - they should be sort of rubbery, not soft or brittle either. Also if the heads are fallin off they aint in good nick - not cooked correctly i think. Some are preserved in salt and others in glycerin - depends who you get em off.
