best surf reel mono for clean beaches
Ok, question is wots the best surf beach reel line for fairly clean beaches for a multiplier. I have been using stren saltwater formula in 14lb lately and before that suffix trititanium in 15lb. Have also used stren original and extra strength 14lb and also tecklon gold and tecklon supernatural in higher breaking strain although diameter was much same. The stren and suffix i was gettin in bulk spools. Was thinkin of tryin stren stamina 15lb (bulk spool €9). Wots yer preference and why?

Re: best surf reel mono for clean beaches
line: tritainum 15lb
reason: its the best. smooth, not too thick, great knot strenth.

Re: best surf reel mono for clean beaches
I use stren extra strength in 20lb mainly cause I find it's a good balance between lowish diameter for the breaking strain and fairly smooth plus I don't use a leader and tie most rigs out of the main line
Species....good film.....I'll get my coat
Re: best surf reel mono for clean beaches
Do you get meany crak offs by usin the 20lb line straight through?
Also, do ya think it is restrictin yer distance?

Re: best surf reel mono for clean beaches
I did get a few crack offs when I started trying the feeder rig or if I'm fishing 2big hook baits, generally I uuse just one good size bait. Also don't like using more than a 3oz lead.

fishing without a leader, thats pretty dangerous mate. leader knots aren't that difficult to get the hang of.

Re: best surf reel mono for clean beaches
I like to fish semi rough ground so if I snag it's easier to set up again. Also just habit and I never really got into the whole leader/rig building thing. Distance wise I always try to fish close in anyways although I know sometimes it could be the difference to get further out. Tonite I could have done with an extra 30 yards, the first table of wave seemed at least 30yards. Currently thinking of toning down the whole set up for clean beach fishing to maybe 14lb line with just a 1oz lead.

Re: best surf reel mono for clean beaches
The problem as I see it is that for bass you generally want surf and a 1oz to a 3oz is just too light a lot of time if there is a good surf. I know you like to target bass and this is why i mention it. Maybe on those calmer nights this is ok or if you are spinnin a bait along the bottom in a place like the sandhill at the cunnigar but otherwise I would suggest a shockleader and a 1 hook rig (flapper, clipped, pulley, runnin ledger, wotever) and a 4 to 6oz weight. Up to you if you want to use a gripper. I regularly use a 5oz bomb for example. Now I aint suggestin I know it all or to do it my way. I am just suggesting somethin for you to try. It doesnt take long to join some shockleader. You can use shockleader for the main rig body and yer 20lb for the snood. I use 15lb fluorocarbon for most of my snoods.

SO far as i know its 10lb for every oz of lead so for a 5oz lead you wd use 50lb shockleader. I use stren but there are various brands available. Obviously you can still use 50lb with a 3oz weight anyway. I use 50lb as standard. I think the length varies as rod lengths vary. You need to have at least 3 to 4 turns on the reel when you are casting. SO you will have a few turns on the reel and leader up through the rod rings and a few feet maybe outside the tip ring. ONe of the match anglers will surely be able to give you specifics.
You need to learn a knot for attaching the leader to the mainline. I'm sure someone on the site will have a link for this. You can go down to 15lb mainline on a clean beach if you are using an appropriate leader. I attach a link to the leader which I leave on it and then this connects to the swivel at the top of the trace/rig. So you will end up buying a rig wallet and having a few pre made rigs in it, along with some links. You will also need to take your spool of leader with you in case you break off. Happens me occassionally when there is a lot of weed about.
All in all its not so bad once you get used to it and it is definitely safer.

Eric,
surprises me but i aint doubtin you. Its just I got a lot of sample stuff of that brand some years back at the Dublin show (along with lots of other punters) and it didnt go well at all. Havent used the f1 stuff so willing to give it a try.

Re: best surf reel mono for clean beaches
Hi SK,
after many trials with lines,im using the f1 15lb test very nice feel to it and when used with a tapered leader it does help on the weed front not jamming in the tip ring. The black colour gives me greater confidence when day fishing.
However one of the nicest lines i've used on the multiplier is the daiwa yellow tournament, around a long time but so eay to lay and see the slackliners when night fishing.Toomuch choice but for what its worth i won't use coloured line in bright conditions, only nightfishing and thats where f1 comes in great strengh and it won't spook fish, however it will be hard to spot slackline bites in the dark
Tight lines
