Thinking of a upgrade

I have been using PPT Sidewinders for most of my clean ground fishing over the past 2 years and find them a decent enough rod to fish with. However I feel I have outgrown them now and was contemplating maybe taking on the zziplex profiles. I have been steered towards the zziplex range after many hours research but mainly due to the fact that they hold their value.I am fully covered for rough ground work(greys apollo and mercury) and would like 2 dedicated clean/surf rods. Has anyone got any advice or recommendations for a rod, i have trawled the internet and frankly im exhausted and also found that some other fishing websites tend to promote certain rods(however good or bad). Any help would be greatly recieved.

well first of all i can honestly say the profile and sidewinder are in two different worlds. having casted both, i found the sidewinder was an outrageous casting tool, it couldn't handle the pendulum and seemed to be more at home with an off the ground cast, even then it couldn't do it properly. some of the earlier models also had a photo of neil mackellow, which was very scary to say the least. the profile in stark contrast is sheer excellence, despite an ultra slim blank it can take a lot of punishment during a cast, doesn't punish like the sidewinder and sends a lead out a long way, what im basically getting at is saying that the profile is one fantastic piece of kit and once you get it youl never look back at the sidewinder. other rods i can recommend would be the conoflex foo fighter or conoflex source. best thing to do is get a test drive of one cause at the end of the day different rods suit different people and its your hard earned cash your spending

I wouldnt be much of a casting rod expert but I have heard from others that the zziplex and conoflex are really good. I also find the greys triplex and platinums nice rods to fish with on clean beaches. Only an average caster myself though.

Don't know much about the penn rod ,but i can't say enough good things about the profile,very user friendly whatever your casting ability and fantastic bite detection as well.The conoflex source is also a nice rod especially when bite detection is needed.Just to confuse you more had a go of a new tip tornado ld lovely feel to it and quite powerful to boot and not as dear as the profile,but as i said already this zippy is a beaut.

Have used both the Profile and the TTLD and must say that you wont go wrong with either.

The profile has a slimmer tip but thicker mid & Butt section and is sweet to cast with.

Both rods are light and quite powerfull for there slim diameters.

Thanks lads for the advice i have been harrassing Gerrys of Morcambe to try to sell me 2 zziplex profiles but they dont seem to want to budge on the price, they have offered free delivery but I likes a good aul haggle and due to me giving up the ciggies I have a few pound extra, so it seems me and gerry are in a mexican standoff at the moment. Gerrys asking for £587 for 2 fully built profiles, but i have offered £540 and i want free delivery as well ( approx £15). If anyone knows where I can get it cheaper let me know, but until then my struggle continues.

You could try Walts of Disneyland.......make sure you dont write out the order form with crayons though and dont put the Hospital address down, they may not take you seriously

thats about the cheapest i have ever heard of brand new. i doubt you will be getting it cheaper. these rods are leagues ahead of your penns.

Gerry may have made a cock-up because Summerlands have the Profile listed at £328.00....I know Gerry carries more Zziplex stock than anyone else in the UK but they are like rocking horse droppings and Terry dont move much on his price.

"As I said before I never ever pay the asking price for anything, having worked in sales in the past" Julio surely working in sales taught you never to discount items that dont need to be discounted, Zziplex rods dont need to be discounted to make them sell faster, why! because they cant be restocked fast enough.....I am all for loyalty discount as many who buy from me know, but to give a discount to anyone who comes out with "I never pay the asking price for anything" would only get the answer "well go elsewhere" (or words to that effect) perhaps its your intention to come across in a bragging fashion or perhaps its just the internet playing tricks again, but that statement is a contradiction unless you get you newspapers, milk and veg and everything else at a discount price too...think about it, it sounds flash and just not nice.............but...a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you also Julio

The Sidewinder can well take a pendulumn cast. If a rod can take a pendulmn for Neil Mackellow then I think it is well placed to take one from most average anglers. I have an Evo Sidewinder and it was quality piece of kit for the price. I have taken fish well into double figures in monstrous tides with it and in dirty ground. The sidewinder would be more an allrounder/mixed ground rod and distance rod. I'd still happily store it against my primo syncro. The primo would be nearer to what you have already but would not be as stiff and IMO more an all round clean ground rod. I wouldn't fish it mixed ground like the sidewinder but is great for distance work for pulling fish over sand banks and dealing with weed when conditions get though while still being light enough to flounder bash. Gerrys when I looked them were not supplying alconites as standard so make sure and request them especially for slim zippy blanks than will be on sandy beachs .

strongly recommend you get a long rod fixed spool job and a multiplier set(presuming you use multipliers?). covers more options...
