Ennereilly, 19-December-2008, The "No BoyZone" Sessions

People: Me
Duration:5:00 pm -midnight approx.
Tide: falling, turning, rising (http://www.irishtimes.com/weather/tides.html)
Weather: warmish, drizzle, cloud, big gale from SW (I think)
Bait: lug, squid
Result: Codling, whiting

I wanted to try out my new GRXS, so started out at Courtown SAC debating merits of best garden centres for gnomes off the N11, santies, Mary Harney etc., etc. Didn't last too long on the beach during daylight as the winter vomiting bug kicked in, and was I was sick as a dog so limped up the N11 to Ennereilly where I could be closer to a friendly base, get tea, etc.

Anyways, as usual when you're not trying too hard, and are distracted, I picked off a couple of little 20-25 cm codling which was nice, and the usual whiting though they were bigger than usual, and in a lot less numbers, nothing worth keeping either. Didn't get any of the mini-bass this time. Maybe the big one last week has driven them off. Lug was doing the trick. The whiting were savaging whole calamari, swallowing baits 2/3s of the lengths of their body.

Not a great session, and I was in a bad way, but the GRX worked out well, teamed up with a 6500c. Probably coulda done with a slightly heavier rod on the night with the wind and big chop. Even throwing up on a beach in Wicklow in the rain is better than being at gnome watching BoyZone on Pat Kenny.

What a waste of licence money. I put on a Bill Hicks DVD instead.
