carp rod for spinning

I just got a 2.5lb test carp road as suggested in sea angler for spinning.
Are there any carp boys can tell me what wait is safe for me to throw with this rod as sea rods mark this on blank this does not. Also mag says a 2.5lb test would hold up to bass and pollock would it.

Anyone tried a carp rod fpr s[inning let me know how you got on.

mornin pookie,
a 2.5 test curve rod should easily handle a 2oz lead, and will throw leads upto 3oz handy enough also. any decent carp rod will easily handle pollack and bass, if anything it may be a little too powerful for the smaller ones. what kind of action does it have? is it a proggesive through action rod, or tippy with lots of back bone or a total broom stick? idealy it should have a tippy enough action soyou can cast lighter lures, spinners and baits, if the rod is too powerful, your cast may be restricted, but a 2.5lb test sounds spot on...... i keep saying it, but it's just a pet hate of mine, but the butts on most carp rods are a wee bit too long for continuous casting of lures. on the plus side, the additional length is handy for increased line pick up, and pulling fish away from snags.

I've used a 2.5lb test curve SKP carp rod for about ten years now for salmon and pike fishing. It can cast a heavy flying C with no problems. The main advantage of it i find is that getting a heavy fish in close, the through action works as a shock absorber so you dont bump fish off.

oh i see thank you i got it brand new for 5.50 inc postage ebay he was selling 6 of them and i waited till last one as the price keep going down first 3 sold for 30+ last 3 about 10-15 i got lucky then cheers always makes you feel good. If only that lucky when fishing lol

Not sure about Leeda but I use a 12ft 2.5lb tc Greys prodigy carp rod for most of my inshore bass fishing. I also use for carp and pike and they easily cast 3oz although wouldn't push much more if giving a hefty chuck.
I mainly use for float fishing and bottom bait fishing when tide not pushing too strongly and don't need to cast to the horizon. playing a 8lb bass on 12lb line on carp rods is a lot more sporting than winching in with most beach gear although only if no snags present.
I prefer 2lb tc for lure fising although really depends on the action of blank.
