A licensing scheme is in the pipeline.

According to the Angling Council of Ireland anglers of all persuasions (freshwater or sea) will be required to posses a license in the future.

The license fee will not go into the government coffers as it dose with the game fishing license now, but will instead go to fund the council directly.

what...., the same councils who can't even put bins at popular marks :evil:

if i pay for something i want to know what it is i'm gonna get back out of it. and if i a'int getting anything out of it. i'm afraid to say i a'int paying :evil:

Sounds like it's the Angling Council (or Ireland) rather than the County Countil.

just noticed my mistake :oops:

. but my point being, what benefits as sea anglers will we see, i would have no problem paying for something, if i knew exactly what i was gonna get out of it. it's all great in theory when we are told there are a list of things that might happen. but before i hand over a dime, i want assurances that it is us anglers, who will benefit from it.

Have you got a link for this? Sounds like BS, there is no way the government would introduce a licence fee and then give the money over to a private organisation that doesn't represent all anglers. Besides, do you not remember the last time they tried to bring in a rod licence? It nearly brought down the government... there are still many trout anglers with long memories of that time...

I agree with Bradan. More info/sources needed before we can make an informed opinion.

Anyhoo, anyone who is currently a member of an angling organisation affiliated to the ACI already pay. Each affiliated organisation subs in €1 per member, if I remember correctly.

In 2003 the (IFSA) and the (NCFFI) were amalgamated to form the Angling Council of Ireland.
