Fresh bait

#1 Post by Cormdogg »

Just down at the local Superquinn and they have plenty of fresh whole Mackerel, Can use that tonight and restock the freezer. They have whole Sardines there aswell, Ive never used it as a salt water bait, only for pike. Can it be used to make strips like Mack or a whole or half. The flesh isnt as firm as mackerel. I can mush some up for me feeder which Im going to try at the weekend. They also have fresh squid, big fellahs though 8 - 10" + from head to tenticle. So Ill stock up on these too,Whats the best way to freeze these fellahs? I can slice the body into rings but whats to be done with the tenticles and head (face???) area?

Any tips?

The squid can just be put in clingfilm and then into the freezer, its probably expensive enough from superquinn, if you can get to a chinese shop they usually sell boxes of it for 2.50..i usually defrost this a bit seperate them into 2's then i can bring them fishing without having to defrost the whole box, the mackeral i usually wrap in newspaper and then freeze as it toughens it up when it defrosts. Hope this is of some help to ya.
