Crab potting in Youghal

#1 Post by Stan »

Anybody interested in trying to launch a campaign to stop this? If this is not stopped Youghal will die as a good area to catch fish.

No doubt there are many other areas where this is going on and I have no doubt that it is affecting catches in these areas also.

I tryed to get some thing going last year but all i got was a holding re-ply from the TD,S we could have another go .
they fish Youghal untill there are no crabs left then they move to Waterford after that to Wexford.
I am told its supported by BIM ? AND WITH OUT GRANTS the money they get would not pay for the fuel

If we can get enough anglers on the site interested I think that we could get a campaign going by writing to the papers, writing to the radio stations etc. However, numbers would be required for this. 1 or 2 anglers taking the matter up will not work

I wrote to BIM and the southern fisheries board. Neither had the coutesy to repy...... makes one wonder.

I'll go in on this one. If you want to get something going there are three of us that will willingly support with whatever is needed. We dont want to look like plonkers though so we could do with decent numbers protesting it. If we dont, nobody else is going to cos we are the only ones really who know the long term effect this is going to have!
Ah yes, 1974, The Cod Wars. I hated Cod so of course I signed up straight away.

You could do with posting on all the South East Angling web sites to see how many would turn up and where.

Waste of time guys.

All the powers that be condone short term gain in this country.
They will only ever close the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Just look at the salmon. Yet, Pat the Cope still wants us to return to drift net fishing and they give Draft netters extra time this year.

No excuse for not replying, but crab fishing is nothing to do with the SRFB, they have no remit to deal with it. BIM and SFPA are the relevant agencies.
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!
