Rain rain and more rain

Well after we won the Ladies Home International :D on Lough Mask on a very wet and fairly windy day, I was invited to fish Lough Derg. When the day dawned it was very wet and windy, so we decided to look for Aillroe and wang out a lead or two instead. Eventually we found it, after asking several people in various pubs. We decided that with the wind and rain in our faces it would better to find a more sheltered place (yes we English are softies). So we found a quay a bit nearer Limmerick, only to find we couldn't hold bottom as the tide was on the ebb still we persevered for a couple of hours, as did a couple of lads from Dublin, they also blanked. The following day went to Dingle, in the rain and wind, no joy there either. The third day i tried Fenit Pier, lots of people fishing, and guess what there was no rain. Plenty of spiders there, some were taking them to eat, i lost no end of bait to them but eventually managed to hook a fish. My guess is it was a ray, whatever it was took me under the pier, bending the rod double. I managed to get hold of the shock leader, and started pulling it from under the pier, only for it to get off. On looking at the rig the 30lb snood was snapped about have way up.

Tried it again the next day, but only had spiders again, then had to drive down to Rosslare ready for the ferry the next day. I got there too late to fish Rosslare point so will earmark that one for the next time I come over.

Typically the day I returned to England it was bright sunshine, oh well at least it was a calm crossing, even if they didn't have any Guinness on the ferry :cry:

When chatting to other anglers, several of them recommended that I try for bass, as it is the closed season for them I didn't, but it seems that some people do not know this or choose to ignore it. I was even told i didn't know what i was talking about when i mentioned the closed season, so I suggested they look at this site.

Although it wasn't a very successful trip in catching fish (not counting the proper fishing :wink: ), I was mainly made welcome and will certainly be back.
