A DISGRACE!!!

was visting a frind of mine down at leenan, we went over to the pier to collect his outboard, and what we seen was a bloody discrase. laying on the pier was a dead conger of about 18lb with its head bashed up, also 30+ coalies laying all over the place, looked like they were kicked and stamped on guts were everywere. its scenes like that, that give us anglers a bad name, the guys that did this are just stupid mindless evil B******* and are only bringing harm to our sport.

its sad to me that people go fishing to catch and destroy any thing thay catch.buy the numbers of fish involved more than one person is involved i doubt.probably the drink and fish brigade when will these mindless morons ever catch on about conservation!!!!!!

Mindless idiots who don't give a dam about anything except themselves .No doubt these guys would be the same morons who would catch buckets of mackeral in the summer,only to take away a few for their dinner.
No wonder some places don't allow fishing from anymore and with carryone like this who could blame the powers that be from calling atotal fishing ban in places where this goes on,what a disgrace and so pathetic.
Just have a look at sea angler every month with people going on about their local piers been closed for fishing,but this maybe more do with liability insurance,but it could happen

the friend i was with seen these guys fishing the pier a few hours before we went over, he said that he had seen them here a good few times, he is now watching out for them.
wont like to be in their shoes on their next visit, can guarantee they wont be back on that pier again.
but in saying that, they will just go and do it on another fishing mark, they are just pure scumbags

Yes, it is a total disgrace. I just don't get the sheer ignorance and mindlessness of it, unless they're drunk? Why go to the expense and trouble of fishing in order to portray yourself as a moron in public? Or is this crass behaviour for the benefit of other anglers, I wonder?

Anyway...

The challenge the rest of us have is how to respond to these gobshines and not sink to their level in doing so, especially by doing anything illegal. I really think the best thing to do is show how it should be done by outfishing and outreleasing these cretins every time, and when we do see scenes like this maturely clean them up for others and dispose of the sad mess and continue fishing.

Does it make any difference? Personally I think it does. Scenes like you describe were once fairly common on Dun Laoghaire piers in summers of the 70's. Much, much less so now. People did learn. I'm often amazed when I compare these times. But that's not to be complacent.

Luclily there are more of us than there are mindless idiots like them, there had to be drink or something else involved. Think of the hours we spend trying to catch a few fish,,, maybe keep the odd one for the table or bait, but most these days are released. I know most passerby's are surprised and impressed when I tell them that most guys these days release most of the fish they catch. Scenes like that one can really do damage to our sport. Dont know what we can do apart from cleaning up after the twats and making our point of view known to them if we see it going on,,,providing its safe to do so .

that sort of thing happens too often, i almost attacked a guy for catching a ballan wrasse of around 3lb(not through jealousy), i just happen to over hear his conversation with his mate as the wrasse was laying on the rocks, one of the guys said they had no ragworm left, the other then said sure we will just cut up that fish for bait. I lost the rag and made my way over where i got the wrasse and put it back into the water, and then made it clear to the 2 morons that they should probably take up a different sport not only for the sake of the fish the ignorant b######s would probably butcher but for their own well being. The mind boggles at what fish have been butchered by ignorant people who claim to be fishermen.

i've seen many people killing fish. it's ok killing the odd fish to eat or macks for bait, but the worst thing is people killing under sized fish and when they realise it is too small it is dead and just left lying.
