Stolen Gear

#1 Post by Stephen8wood »

Hi all,

I left work this evening a little later than usual and was contemplating an hour or two on Killiney beach as i had everything in the car, rods, bag, boots, head lamp etc. Trouble is when I got to the car spot there was no sign of the car. If anyone is offered second hand gear by someone they don't know will you keep an eye out for the following,

Beach caster: Abu Garcia, 13 feet, Stigma
Bass Rod: Shakespeare tidewater, 11 feet
Reel: Shimano: Bait runner 6000 with white braid on the spool
Reel: Shakespeare, looks like a bait runner not sure of the name with 15 lb mono
Bag: Cheap grey back pack with green fishing box containing 15 approx assorted spinners, plugs and lures, flask, head lamp, wooden handled knife, numerous weights, tip lights.
Boots: Good quality green boots with waxy finnish. New boot warmers .
Rod stands: Two of the single rod variety, green in colour.
Probably more than I can think of now.

While you I'm at it if you are offered Calloway golf clubs by the same fella let me know.

It took me a while to gather that lot together and it's a shame to see it all go like that. At least the car is insured but the contents wont be beyond €250 and that wont pay for the golf clubs.

Thanks,

Stephen

Mention it to your local tackle shops as well, just in case someone tries to sell it there.

Sorry to hear about your car and your stuff. It's a disgrace that this happens and I'm sure we all feel nervous leaving our gear in the car, and I often do it. I hope you have some luck in retrieving your gear.

Hi

A word on insurance, I know your car insurance won't cover you for more than 250, but you do know you can claim on your house insurance right?
I am not sure of the fine detail, but I know it is possible, check it out, your house insurance should have coverage for unspecified up to say a grand or two.
all the best,
and a big "F**k You" to whoever robbed yer motor!
regards

Thanks lads,

I checked with the home insurance people and unless you have opted for an "all risks" policy the gear in the boot of a stolen car is not covered. The extra premium is quite small annually and I'm feeling a bit sick that I didn't opt for it. When you start to work out the replacement cost of all the fishing gear it may be well worth it.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and if you see any of the gear being offered around be careful.

Stephen

if you do manage to find out who these scumbags are, try to find someone to chop their fingers off and try them for bait. i hear the whiting will eat anything.
i knew a guy who's car was stolen a few years back with almost 20k worth of photography equipment in the boot. gut wrenching as they were his livelihood and he had no choice to buy everything again straight away.
as the lads said keep an eye out in the buy and sell and also the herald has a free adds section one day a week. with a bit of luck when the car is found the stuff might still be in it. fingers crossed.

sorry to hear about your loss mate. it might also be worth taking a walk around local car boot sales in the area this weekend. same thing happend to a builder mate of mine with his van, and low and behold a trader had his gear on display at a boot sale the following weekend. a quick call to the cops and he got the majority of his gear back and the trader was done for handling stolen goods  . good luck

Thanks again lads and thaks very much for your kind offer Beachcaster. I'll wait a while to see if the car turns up.

In answer to some of the threads above, the car was stolen from Tallaght Village where I work. The Guards havn't come accross it yet but they have a lot to deal with.

Thanks for all your responses and advice. It's a great consolation and at the end of the day it's all only money and all the stuff can eventually be replaced. I went to a rental car company today to pick up the car that the insurance company had arranged. The guy in the car company asked what contents I had stolen and I mentioned the fishing gear. He turned out to be a serious sea angler himself and gave me a free upgrade to a bigger car as a mark of fraternity. This along with the generous offers and words of advice from you guys just goes to show that the angling community is something well worth being part of.

It won't be long before I'm back annoying the mini-whiting.

Thanks again.

Stephen
