People: Me
Duration: 8am to 3pm
Tide: Around Midday
Weather: -2C to 4C Very Cold, no wind, sunny
Bait: Lug, Razor, Crab
Rigs: 2 hook flappers
Results: Countless small Whiting and Dabs
I hadn't fished Killoughter in over 15 years. Way back then the small road leading to the railway crossing was very bad, I thought that it must have been improved by now. I was wrong, it's like something from downtown Baghdad, don't go there unless you have a 4X4.
Started fishing at 8am and finished at 3pm. Loads of small whiting and Dab and only one decent dab taken all day.
As I was reeling in the first small Whiting there was an almighty pull on the rod and a seal surfaced just in front of me. The Whiting had no stomach when I brought it in. Not sure if this was the seal though as I couldn't see how such a big seal could just take the stomach and not the entire fish.

Re: Killoughter Wicklow
I had a similar experience with a whiting caught in dublin bay a month ago.....just the soft fleshy part around the stomach (and the stomach/guts itself) taken out, first impression was maybe a bass or the like, given that it seemed to be a bite mark too small for a seal.
But I also thought that maybe the fish had been on the hook a while (it was difficult seeing bites due to the wind), and maybe crabs had got to the fish. I was fishing quite short snoods, so the fish wouldnt have had much scope to get away from them if they were really hungry.
I guess, like all them fish that get away......it shall remain a mystery

It's bad, but do-able if you are very careful and take your time. Don't drive too quickly or you are liable to loose you undercarrige or a wheel.
