Airport Road West - Belfast

#1 Post by nobuzz »

Has anyone ever tried fishing on the shore at Airposrt Road behind Ikea, Sainsbury's etc.

It look like it might be a good flattie & mullet spot.

Also, its gotta be quite close to the deep water channel coming into Belfast Harbour.
Species List 2012 (Me) - Lesser Spotted Dogfish, Plaice, Codling, pollack, dab, SS Scorpion Fish, Ballan Wrasse, Codling.

Species List 2012 (Daniel) - Not got started yet :-(

i've spoken to a couple of the lads on the site about this before. a mate of mine in his forties used to fish the jetty there years ago and said it used to be a mackeral hot spot and was carpeted in flatties. but in our current global security orientated world the harbour cops are strict as hell down there. i guess it's cos you're in spitting distance of the runway for the airport       if they see you they will move you on sharpish which is a pity as it does look very fishy.    but you could chance it and just play dumb when they come along

You've know idea how good the fishing could be around the harbour estate but don't attempt to fish it mate, you'll get into serious trouble with the Harbour Police these days. I used to fish a stone jetty known locally as the point and you couldn't fail to catch from it. Species caught were Mackerel, Pollock, Coalies, Whiting, Pouting, Codling, Flounder, Mullet, Gurnard, Spurdog, LSD, Conger. Its a shame the fishing is no longer available.

i was talking to a friend today who works for the council at the landfill site facing where you were wanting to fish and there might be some good news on the horizon for fishing the lough. apparently it's on the cards that the site might become a public park soon. this would put you within casting distance of the deep water channel. who knows, this might become a pretty decent mark in years to come :P :P :P :P :P :P heres hopeing anyway. if i here any more i'll put up a post as and when i hear.
