anyone know anything about these rods??

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Is there a sign up stating that? I forgot, he's gone to the states for a few days. Usually would have someone covering though. Ill pop down tomorrow after work.

got the rod this morning from the half way. as i had an hour and a bit to spare when i got home i decided to bring the dogs to the regional park and fling it about with a 4 oz lead. my friend gave me an abu "6500 c3 ct mag elite" a few weeks ago that used to belong to his dad. unfortunately his dad passed away before it could be taken from the box so it was brand new. must say, i was very surprised with the distances i was getting. towards the end i wasnt too far off the distance of my other rod and i was taking it pretty easy.

i started off just chuckin it a little to get the feel of it. after about 10 casts i started chuckin it a bit harder and having great fun. eventually the inevitable happened. after about 5 or 6 "last casts" i got a birds nest that i couldnt untangle so packed up and came home.

i tried to untangle it and just seemed to make it worse so cut it and got it free. worst thing is now i must try to tie the not again for the shock leader. got a guy in work to do it the last time for me.

cheers for the advise on the rod lads. very very happy with it after only 1 casting session.

cheers for the recommendations conger.
im pretty sure thats the first nest of many.
spent ages on YouTube yesterday lookin for a good video to do the shockleader knot and eventually got it so raring to go now again. just lookin forward to pulling in a fish with it now, even a pin whiting will do me.

tanx again,

if youre just practice casting, put the brakes full on, and put the two
brake blocks in as well, will certainly cut down on birdsnests, will be
surprised if you get any at all.

sorry if i come across as a bit dumb but what do you mean by putting the brakes on and the brake blocks in??

the reel is the "ambassadeur 6500C3 CT Mag Elite"(in green). In the booklet with the reel it says it has a "Smart Mag Brake" which is the magnetic and mechanical brakes in one :?: :?: . i have these set to the max (9). theres no brake blocks with it. i didnt buy the reel but got in an unopened box with the lube and spanner and that was it.
brought it out again today just to chuck it about a little more without nests so cant complain,
cheers again for the help lads,
red.

the brake blocks slide onto the two pins on the right hand side of the
spool, two small plastic blocks, they give you the added security of
centrifugal force, as well as magnetic stopping power. overall just
added security against the dreaded birdsnest.
