anyone fish Ross Strand, outside Killala Co Mayo?

#1 Post by kieran »

Hi

Was up Killala direction to see a mechanic about my car and brought the kids to Ross Strand. It is a lovely spot opposite Bertragh island, full of lugworm casts, the odd clam or razor mark too. What threw me was the size of boat that chugged past, well below HW in the channel from Killala harbour... has anyone fished the strand and if so for what with what?

Thanks
Kieran Hanrahan

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Kieran,
Fished it in the 70's and 80's for Sea Trout on drift lined sand-eel.
Also caught small Turbot on bottom fished sand-eel.
Don't know what it's like now but presume sea trout worth a go.
Used to be good sand-eel in channels in Lacken Strand. Don't know if anyone tries Ross or Lacken now.
