Kilcoole 15/11/08

#1 Post by diego »

People: me and Ashley

Duration: 16.00 to 23.00

Tide: High Tide @ 12.30 and 23.30

Weather: Very mild, no wind

Bait: lug and snake size rag (left over from Wednesday's session)

Rigs: 2 hooks rig

Results: 2 whiting, 1 rockling, 2 coalie and 12 small bass

Report:

Arrived at Kilcoole and the weather was nice and mild, the sea was calm and there was no wind.
We started fishing but the crabs were the only things eating the bait, no fish until around 17.30.
Ashley got the first fish of the day, it was a nice coalie (+ 2.5 lb), the fish started biting and we got four small bass (two each), I got a coalie and a rockling while Ashley got a decent size whiting. At around 19.30 it got quiet again, no more bites, only the crabs polishing the hooks.
Ashley packed his stuff and left around 20.30, there was plenty of bait left and I decided to stay there as it was a very nice and mild night. From around 21.00 until 23.00 I got eight more small bass and one small whiting.

While I was putting my stuff into the car (it was already 23.30), a car arrived and a three guys come out of it; two of them went straight to the beach while one of them came towards me, he introduced himself as a member of the Easter Regional Board, they were just doing some routine checking. It's very good seeing that this kind of work done also at night and not just during the day.

It was a good session, the bass there small but it was a pleasure to catch them. Unfortunately no signs of the codling, we were hoping to get some of them.

I had the same problem during the summer time ;-) I was going nuts, I tried to catch a bass for months but nothing.
Thanks to Ashley, I got my first bass (7.5 lb) in September (in Wexford).
