Hi all

The next development on the site is for the boat anglers.

Can you all please contribute your knowledge as to the quality and location of the slipways for dinghy anglers around the country. I will add all the info with full credit given to the shore maps... think it will be an excellent addition?

1.
Location : Millisle Beach Park. Co Down, Northern Ireland.
Access : Easy.
Charge : None
Notes : 2 Slips in Millisle, Both are tidal, there is no charge for Launching, and both are in good condition, Recommend the use of the 'Stand Alone' slip, as the one at the pier has a few Obstacles just offshore..
Species: Millisle area is known to produce Pollack, Coalies, Cod, Ling, Congers, Mackeral. There's a load of Rough ground behind the Craiganadam Rocks as well as many features shown on admiralty Maps.

The pier/small harbour at Aughris , Co Sligo . Well signposted as Aughris Head from the main and coastal roads between Ballysadare and Dromore West . Only a few hundred yards from the Beach Bar ( also well signed ) which is worth a visit anyway - traditional pub , great pint & craic .
Slip and access to it are quite steep and you'd have to reverse down with trailer . Harbour is sheltered . Reckon could launch anytime after LW + 1 hr .
Hardly ever seems to be in use .
Mackerel , conger , doggies , small pollack close in . Must be more . See "shore Marks" - flatties , sea trout , tope . Hardly ever fished these days .

Several other/easier launch sites along that stretch - into Ballysadare Bay . Just shout if you want details .

Ferrybank on the Dublin side of Wexford Bridge.
Access: Good
Charges: None
Catches: Flounder, eel, bass, cod

What a good idea!

New ( broad and gentle ) slipway under construction at Ballyvaughan, N. Clare. From yesterday's observations - it should be ready for the summer season ( famous last words ) and appears to have excellent low tide characteristics.

There is another slip at Gleninagh midway between Ballyv' and Blackhead but this is very tight on access, very steep and has, generally, limited tidal availabilty HT+- 1.5hrs.

Next slip south is the one in Doolin. Beware of ferry operators.

dunmore east co waterford has a very good well kept slip but in summer months ud have to get there early as it gets busy with other water sports users.
tramore peir small and a lot quiter but the inner peir is tidel you have to drive down the slip and go out off the beach at low water.
good fishing can be had with going to far from both peirs and there is a number of wrecks at distance.

Mullaghmore co sligo good slip , launch off sand all times except LW +_ 1hr Very busy in summer, parking can sometimes be a problem

Enniscrone CO sligo good slip similar to above, not as busy, northerly wind to be avoided, creates big swell

both these slips can be done single handed

Id just like to add to blowins report about aughris, this slip has nowhere to tie boat whilst you get trailer so another pair of hands is essential, though this might be different in summer when local boats are in.

Skerries (Lifeboat slip): good slip kept clean, dries out at low water, best launched one and a half hours either side of low water unless your O.K. on sand. Plenty of free parking in area.
Rush harbour: Only launch either side of low water off the hard sand. Access is down a narrow entrance but once down plenty of beach to play with. Plenty of free parking in area.
Malahide (close to Garda Station): Could be a great slip but only able to launch at high water due to the lower half of the slip breaking off sticking up. No free parking in area.
Howth (beside yatch club): Best slip in Dublin, kept clean and is fairly wide, only problem is that this can lead to queue's forming at peak times. Water on slip at all stages of the tide but be careful to follow the markers at low tide otherwise you will end up beached. Good free parking, but make sure to put the trailer in a parking bay seperate to the car otherwise you could find a clamp on the trailer.
Bray: Good slip but full of slippy weed at low water. Harbour dries out at low water so launching is best one and a half hours either side of low water. A rope may be needed to retreve the boat & trailer when the weed is exposed (pity it's not cleaned). Plenty of free parking in harbour area.
Greystones: Small harbour good launching with plenty of free parking at the moment. A new marina is being built and it will be interesting to see what happens to the slipway and parking.
Cahore: Good slipway always has water, harbour wall to tie up alongside. Free parking and great fishing.

Public Slip in Fenit Co. Kerry left turn at the corner after the post office condition OK but not too sure about low tide

Newly improved public slip at ballyheige Co. kerry on the road to Kerry
Head

Slip at Brandon Pier Co. Kerry has a Three (yes count them! Three!!) Pubs near by. one right near the pier oh yeah and the slip is ok too.

there is a slip at the pier in the maharees as well. with lots of turning space.

there is 3 slipways/launches that I know off-1 Barna Pier-shallow water,2 Spiddal Pier-deep water but be carefull heading out as a lot of rocks either side, 3 The beach in Spiddal-have seen a few people launch off the beach using there cars.

Just got back from Bellmullet at the weekend, and found Blacksod Bay beside the Lighthouse a good spot with an equally good slipway, a floating pontoon is also put up during summer months which is excellent for tempory mooring of your boat.

Port-Na-Blagh, Co Donegal:

Access all stages of the tide, free to launch and recover, ample free parking too.

Maybe it gets a bit busy at the height of season, but that just means you have to wait 2 or 3 minutes instead of going right away.

You can also launch and recover from the sheltered beach on the other side of the pier.

Slip ways.

BUNDORAN at Life boat station West end of Town.
BALLYSHANNON. The Mall Quay. The mouth of the estury entering the sea can be tricky,
CREEVY. 3K from Ballyshannon on the Rossnowlagh road.
MURVAGH. Follow the sigh for the SALMON INN. on the main road from Ballyshannon to Donegal. Not advisable for use with local knowledge.
DONEGAL TOWN. The quay in the town.
MOUNTCHARLES. Follow the signs from Mountcharles Village.
INVER VILLAGE. In the village it's self.
KILLYBEGS. Killybegs Harbour Specially built slip way for small boats. in the town
TOWNEY. Turn left in the village of Carrick turn right down a small lane past the football pitch.
TEELIN. Turn right in the village of Carrick and follow the signs

There are othe small piers and slipways in the area from Killybegs to Kilcar and Teelin

Downings is fine. slip beside pier with car park. fairly sheltered. gives good access to sheephaven bay- horn head, ards estuary, melmore-plenty of choice. Portnablagh is my usual which is fine but on higher tides can have a bit of a run up the slip which makes things tricky.

There is a slipway in Burtonport that is easy enough to use for launching and retrieving except at LW springs for about an hour or so either side of the low. It's the same slipway used by the Arranmore ferry, so you have to time your comings and goings around its movements - not a problem really as if you're cute you'll follow the ferry out and in to the open water, avoiding having to figure out how not to beach yourself on the channel into the port and avoid many of the hidden rocks along the way. There is ample secure and free parking around the pier, shops, toilets and tackle & chandelry at the pier head and as far as I know no launching fees.

Pretty much any species can be caught within a couple of miles of the pier.

Whitehead, Co. Antrim, has a sheltered slip but it dries out at low water.

New slipway and harbour area will be officially opened on Friday at Ballyvaughan, N. Clare.
This is a great facility. Plenty of parking, an easy to launch slip and access at 80% of the tide.
