coalies and whiting
ive been out on a good few trips over the past few weeks and have yet to connect with a coalie, and have only seen one caught by jp. this time over the previous years the place would be beginning to become infested with them. any reasons why?? also there seems to be an abundance of pin whiting around. in the past 4 years i's say ive caught about a dozen of them but this year i'm actually targeting them. wonder is there any link between the absence of one and the presence of the other?
shore species 2008(25):dogfish(3.1lbs), bull huss (12lb 2oz), bass, shore rockling, coalie, whiting, pollack, conger (22.4lbs),flounder, thick lipped mullet (4.8lbs),turbot,ling (11.2lbs),ballan wrasse(4.5lbs), cuckoo wrasse, pouting, poor cod, cod (9.5lbs), dab, 3 bearded rockling, long spined scorpion fish, corkwing wrasse, plaice, trigger fish, sea trout, garfish

come up to the east coast lumpy and you will soon get sick of them. i reckon the reason for any spieces not to be showing at any time when u expect them is all down to water temperature every year is different. global warming in full effect i am afraid. think about it, every government in the world aint gettin fined for their carbon footprint for then fun of it.

So - the reason for fish not showing when you think they should is due to global warming eh? My money is on over-fishing as the cause.

I found the same myself last week down beara when fishing a rock mark for dabs.This time of year they would normally be a nuisance and would find your bait before any other fish got a chance.If they were fish of about 2lb it would be ok but they would usually average about a half lb.It was the first time that I failed to catch a coalie from there.I had the best session ever from that mark, dabs,flounder,dogs,pollock and mackerel.There was still mackerel shoaling within yards of the shore so the water might still be a bit warm for them yet.

Whiting move inshore only when all other species have moved offshore.
So ,if you are catching alot of whiting, go home.
