youghal 3nov 08

#1 Post by beachbuddy »

People:myself

Duration:4 till 9

Tide:hw 8

Weather:cold but pleasant enough

Bait:lug razor crab
dd
Rigs:1 up 1 down size 2 and clipped 3/0

Results:about a dozen whitting and a coalie

Report:Eventhough the reports from youghal haven't been great of late i decided to give it a lash. But firstly i fished a rock mark near ardmore no fish but 2 cracking bites which i failed to connect with, this is a mark that you get cut off so before this happened i headed for youghal, but i will be back when conditions improve ie onshore wind.
Bites straight away but alas not cod but greedy whitting, judging by the way they kept hitting me there is alot of them in the estuary at the moment. Not huge at the start but once the tide started to ebb they got a lot bigger upto 1lb.Nice to see them around as they saved me a blank and it made the bait digging for lug wortwhile, some of the buggers were well over 2 ft down and scarce, yip winter is coming.Interestingly as the tide ebbed alot of splashing going on,maybe bass hitting the whitting that i was returning. On another note i saw a small boat in the middle of the channel and it was'nt just out for a spin
Lots of other headlamps twinkling around the place i suppose like me in search of the ever elusive cod.
Tight lines.

Cheers seanie,
i suppose whitting are better than nothing its true but it was dissapointing that no codling showed.Normally in past seasons you would always get a few at this time of year,no matter how mild it would be,but the next few weeks will tell alot.
By the way that mark i was discussing with you if you had fished it before looks like a cracker, but a stint been marooned on the rocks for 2 or 3 hrs after hw did'nt appeal to me yesterday, but it would be worth a proper session in the next few weeks.

Hi all,
ya those bites that i missed have been playing a bit on my mind. The rod was literally pulled out of the stand without warning and before i could react i was stuck solid both takes came on a big lump of razor in bright sunshine, but strangelly enough i was fishing on what i thought was pure sand, obviously not
I was thinking big wrasse but i didn't think they would take razor and as i said these bites were real powerful and fast not like wrasse bites at all or any other fish bite i've encountered, but i hope to get to the bottom of it all soon at least fingers crossed i will
Rory unfortunately im working till sunday morning but i'd be up for monday if your about,i might even bring you to the mysterious bites mark and hopefully it won't be you showing me up again, dam those king rag

Hi Tom,
ya the area i was fishing would definately have bass in the vicinity but these were bites that did'nt resemble any bass takes that i've had before, normally any bass i catch give 1or 2 good pulls followed by a run,or else the classic slack liner.
Might have to bring out the old slosh 20 and rotten bottoms, hopefully i meet these fish again on my terms.
Cheerio.
