#1 Post by tom1 »

People:Myself

Duration:5:30 to 8:30

Tide:Around 7pm

Weather:dd Strong NE wind cold but dry

Bait: Black lug,razor, and mackerel
dd
Rigs: Pulley pennell and 2 hook pat

Results: 3 small whiting and a few crabs

Report:

Headed off to Youghal with high hopes of catching a few cod and it was surely cold enough for them but they were a no show, so ended up feeding the crabs instead oh and 3 very small whiting, so with that north easterly being so strong and blowing in my face, so at 8:30 i decided to pack up my gear and ship out...

Did'nt post any pictures as the whiting were so small they did'nt show up on the pictures

At least you didn't blank.

I had seriously thought about heading to Youghal myself to try for cod but with those cold NE winds I decided against it and went for more sheltered marks instead. The water termperatures are still quite warm - I was washing my hands in the sea in Caliso Bay yesterday and the water felt quite warm. Maybe it needs to drop a few more degrees before the cod start to make an appearance in numbers.

Hi frank, ya id say its still a bit early for the cod at the moment, id be thinking twud be the around middle of the month or after before they start showing up in any numbers. You done the smart thing by going to a sheltered mark coz that ne wind was fair strong. There was a few over in ferry point wonder how they got on...

The water temp at the moment is averaging 12.2C. This time last year it was 13.6C. You'd expect the cod to be in at this stage.
