Where in Greystones?

#1 Post by stevo74 »

All,
See excerpt below from www.fishing-ireland.net. Does anyone know where the hungry acre is ? Also is stream at Ballygannon easier accessed from Kilcoole or greystones?

The South Beach, Greystones produces codling, pollack , dab, plaice and dogfish. Hotspots are opposite the outflow pipe on the “Hungry Acre” and around the stream at Ballygannon.

cheers

The hungry acre is from the arch at the car park to the first stream.. Well that's what I have always know it as, the stream in ballgannon is about 10 minutes or less walk from the first stream, where is end of the driving range is.

Can you still walk down the back of the driving range and get to the beach that way. Last time I went down there which was last winter it was blocked off.

Is Ballygannon still fishable ie down where the grey shed use to be.. I know there where doing loads of work down.

Cheer John,
I was fishing the Hungry Acre but just didn't realise ! I got onto the beach from the driving range car park. There was a big gate that was open there, so crossed the tracks & fished right at that spot. Mind you on the way back (around 18:30) the gate was closed and I was lucky as i could just about squeeze through a gap in the gate bars ! Might try fishing at the stream next time, as it looks bassy.

Was the gate locked or just closed? I have never seen a lock on that gate.

This mark is accessed from the path at the bottom of the driving range.

Hope this helps

If thers no lock on it just line up both gates and pull the bar open. The gates are a bit lobsided and heavy but if line up properly they open easy enough.

Hope this helps

Forgot to post that these gates now have a very heavy duty bolt at the bottom holding them permanently locked. Probably because it accesses straight on to the railway line.

A little bit further on to the end of the driving range brings you to a small pathway along beside the stream so still handy enough.

was down there last week that path is like a bog the driving range seem to have pushed there fence back in a curve so the path gets heavy use in places if the range had there way im sure they would have you wading down the stream.
