Report: Decided to give Garryvoe another go as we could bring the wives and kids for a walk on the beach before packing them off to the hotel for warmth and food before they headed home.
I was having a nightmare with my distance rod, not sure how many weights and traces I lost due to crackoffs and various other difficulties. At one point some big fish pulled over my rod stand and managed to get my line caught in some rocks somewhere which promptly snapped when I tightened into it. Refilled my spool, cast out, was hit by another fish which when I tightened up had cunningly untied a couple of my knots leaving my weight and itself behind.
I'm guessing there is a reef of some description out there somewhere as could feel something about halfway in everytime I retrieved and, of course, lost another trace to it along with a fish.
Luckily my close in rod was giving me no problems and as the tide was coming to HW I got into some coalies about 10-15yds out. Smallest 21cm, biggest 38cm. Got one more later on a bit further out (all fish to mack and sandeel)
Nik was fishing big baits at distance, he was getting a few small knocks, which were probably small fish picking at the bait as it was often coming back cleaned. He missed one good bite before whilst helping me refill my spool
and had another slack line bite as the tide was falling which turned up nothing before he managed a 20cm coalie on a 6/0.
