Mark 1: As the sea was very flat due to the NNW wind I decided to try a new rock mark. When I got there I found a gently sloping rock platform well above the high tide mark that allowed casting out onto a clean sandy area - it looked a perfect spot so I was hopeful of a good result (thanks for the directions Shane
) I set up three rods cast out different distances with a pennel on one and single hook flappers on the other two. But the rod tips stayed motionless - not a hint of a bite - the baits came back untouched each time. I tried different baits and bait combinations. Tried casting closer to the rocks only to get snagged a couple of times. However, at about 4.30 pm there was a fairly strong knock on one of the rods that was cast out about 20 m. I retrieved to find a 39 cm flounder, weighing about 1 3/4 lbs. Saved from a blank 
I stuck it out for about another half an hour but no more bites. I decided against staying until after dark and thought it best to try another mark.
Mark 2: Headed to the rock mark where I got three bass last week. The stage of the tide would be about the same, and the gentle swells on the sea were about the same, although the wind direction was different and it was a lot colder compared to the time I was there last week.
I cast out two rods, one with a 3/0 pennel and the other with various size single hook traces. I got a few nibbles on the latter but that was all. Again I tried various baits and bait cocktails but nothing, not even a dogfish. Eventually I tried tipping the hooks with sliver of sandeel, which I have found almost always produces a dogfish - but still nothing. As the tide was dropping it was becoming more difficult to avoid snags and I was catching a fair bit of weed.
I called it a day at about 9.00 pm. Maybe the cold wind had affected the fishing - although you would think at least a coalie or two might have been about. Still at least I didn't blank with one decent size flounder. The first mark looked very good so I will have to give it another go under different weather conditions.
