Glenarm Beach 27/10/08

#1 Post by smicker »

People:me

Date :27/10/08

Venue:Glenarm

Duration:18.00 - 22.00

Tide:high approx 22.00

Weather: clear, showers high wind dropping into dark, cold

Bait:rag, lug, sandeel

Rigs:2 hook flappers, pulley

Results:flounder, 4 coalfish, edible crab

Report: Had a load of bait left from sunday so rather than the bin decided to use it so went up the antrim coast and Glenarm was the first practical place to fish. Glenarm initially looked like a surf beach but calmed down into the dark. 7 inch flounder on the initial cast to be followed by 3 8 inch and 1 12 inch coalfish

. All fish to worm baits on a flapper using size 1 circle hooks, all fish lip hooked and returned ok.

nothing touched the sandeel on the pulley rig but at least my second Sonic rod survived 1 session without breaking.

Fishing died off a bit around 9 and started to pick up again after 10.30 and on my last cast hauled in a monster crab attached to a hunk of weed.

Thought about it, never had crab before but in the end unsure about cooking it so let it go back unharmed

only take a crab for eating if your willing to put the 20mins into breaking it down after cooking

otherwise if its big enough just take the claws or if the claws arent big enough leave it be - not worth the picking at the shell
