Thornies in Mayo.

#1 Post by Big Dave »

People:Myself and Carmel

Duration:3hours

Tide: Rising

Weather:dd South-south west (3-4)

Bait: Sandeel and squid
dd
Rigs: 2 up, running ledger

Results: 4 Thornies.

Report:
Took the camper up to Mayo with great intentions of climbing that hill they have up there and get a few hours fishing in, but due to a crazy night in Westport all plans went out the window.
Just about managed to drag myself out of bed to drive down one of the many piers and get the rods out, before the kettle had even boiled was into Thornies.

Fishing weather it was not in Westport, The capsized boats were a bad sign on Saturday morning. Spent that day and most of my money in Hewetsons.Never found out where that lovely thorney spot was so I did bit of a reccie but couldnt match any spot to the photo.Spent a couple of hours at Murrisk pier, No joy.The hail was nice. Gave up the and went to even less sheltered Lecanvey pier. The hail and waves smashing over pier was nice.A LSD had the decency to take some of my bait and that saved a blank.Waves and wind were huge,But still a nice day out lost hardly any gear. Might try old head next time in less menacing weather.
