GREYSTONES 27th oct 08

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and big mick

Duration2-30pm-6pm

Tide:LW 15-55pm

Weather:dd cold, windy, dry

Bait:mack, rag
dd
Rigs:1 hook clipped down, mini rig

Results:me, 1 whiting ,1 corkwing wrasse, big mick, 1 whiting.

Report:Went to greystones with big mick to use up some leftover rag from yesterday in Wicklow.Things started out badly when big micks jeep wouldnt start after he picked up his mack in bray but we jump started it and continued on out to Greystones. There were some anglers in our usual spot (the cheek of them   ) so we set up near the railings by the Harbour. The tide was going out with a lot of rocks exposed so it was hard to retrieve the rigs without getting snagged. I got a whiting on the second cast, along with a big ball of weed so i was happy enough, blank saved    . Big Mick wasnt too happy, sitting there in the cold thinking whether or not the jeep would start later on. Conditions were bad with lots of weed so i tried lobbing a small rag and mack combo in close on a mini rig ( 1 OUNCE LEAD AND SIZE 4 HOOK) . I lost this rig on the second cast so i decided to climb down to sea level and try again. I brought a couple of rag in a bag in my pocket and down i went. Half way down i was sorry i started but Big Mick was watching me so i continued down. "Youll break your bleeding neck", he says but i made it down. I was rewarded with a nice corkwing wrasse which took the bait immediately on hitting the water. That took the smile off his face  ."You lucky ba#ta%d",says he but i knew luck had nothing to do with it 8) . Mission accomplished i climbed back up .Big Mick then reeled in a small whiting which finally brought a smile to his face. The fishing was poor enough but with the low water, weed, choppy sea, at least we didnt blank. Big Mick decided to leave and was overjoyed when the jeep started first time  . I stayed a while longer and moved over to where i normally fish when the lads left, but no more joy, not even a nibble. Maybe next time

My wife doesnt understand me either   Had a couple of small traces made up handy so i tried them,,,got bites straight away,,,,lost trace,,,,climbed down, lobbed out 4 yds,,,,bang,,,,corkwing wrasse. Very hard to hit the spot from above ,especially with a float attached, as the tide was well out. Will try float next time to keep you happy Sensei  .Get well soon :)

At least you got a couple of fish.

I had a long session yesterday at two rock marks and all I had to show for it was one good size flounder. I think the cold NNW winds affected the fishing - well that's my excuse anyway.

I should have fished there instead - but as the sea was calm I was keen to try another new rock mark. I must put up a report for that later with the photo of my one fish
What sort of sizes were you getting on the East Cork beach? - I have had a good few in the 40-42 cm range over the summer from there.
