Bass Fishing?

#1 Post by wilky83 »

Having only caught bass on lures i am starting to bait fish for them as i was told in the winter months i would only get the odd "stupid" bass on lures. So my questions are, what size hooks, what strenght line and what strenght shockleader, and also what kind of rigs. I know the best bait is peeled crab but is this only for rough ground, should i use sandeel on beaches????

There is no such thing as a "stupid" Bass :!:

Have a browse through the forum, there is plenty of information in it on how to target them, equipment, tactics etc.

Hey basslover i would keep it simple if i was you starting off for the bass. One or two hook flapper with 2/0 -4/0 hooks with 15/20 lb snoods 12-24 inches and 50lb main rig body, 5/6 oz grip lead plenty of fresh peeler :D . See how that goes for you then you can start looking at pulley rigs running legers and all that craic. Main thing is to find and study the right marks. A good few of the lads on here do well on the bass keep an eye on them :)
Long time no sea.

basslover

From my (brief) experience I would say, fish away.....if you get one.....its a bonus

I spent a good few trips earlier this summer targeting them, only to be dissappointed....hard earned cash spent on fresh peeler, petrol to get down to wexforn/wicklow etc....I've actually caught more bass as a bycatch around the Dublin area than I have when specifically fishing for them :? :? :?

I got one recently on a 3 hook flapper, size 4 hooks on a small strip of mackerel while expecting flatties....says it all :!:
