Dungarvan Cracker

#1 Post by iona »

People:myself + 40 tourists :)

Duration:2.5hrs

Tide:ebbing tide

Weather:dd cold clear and breezy

Bait: bread
dd
Rigs: float

Results: 1 mullet

Report: unfortunately my latest fortnight trip to the green isle had to cut short, really short. big disappointment as i had planned a full assault on Art's bass stock.
anyway before i went home i managed a wee visit down for mullet while er indoors went to the shops.
i peeped over the side to see a few smaller fish cruising around followed by a better fish. doesn't matter how many times you fish when you see them its like a kid all over, canny get the gear set up fast enough. :D
i decided rather than pot luck i would target the bigger fish so set about trying to ping bits towards it rather than a general spread. over an hour passed before it showed interest. slowly but surely it gained confidence and started picking away at bits. twice it took my bait but both times it was quicker ejecting it than i was striking. after 2hrs i gave up and went for the scatter gun approach just to try and get something. blow me a bit of competition for the bait an it goes beserk hoovering up everything including my bait.
what a scrap, 15 minutes of prop missing, rope dodging etc saw one of the crowd volunteer to be the netsman. cheered on by his 2 wee lads he climbs down onto a moored boat and nets a fine fish which tipped the scales at 7lbs 7oz.
well worth the wait and she went back nicely.

hopefully i will manage across next year a couple of times to sample the wonderful fishing in this area.

dale
