Wicklow Cove, Co. Wicklow 20/10/08

#1 Post by Senor Feeshy »

People: Me & Anthony

Duration: 13:30- 17:00

Tide: In at around 16:15

Weather: Overcast Slight breeze (very sheltered location though)

Bait: Rag, Mackerel, Squid, Mussel, Sandeel
dd
Rigs: 2 hook flappers

Results: 1 Pin whiting

Report:

Hit superquinn in Bray for some fresh mack and a bag of mussels. Good to know they have full mack and fillets there and cheaper than frozen from a tackleshop.
Headed to wicklow in search of a few new marks. We decided to try a very likely looking spot just on the southside of town.
Long story short, 1 whiting early on and not a bite thereafter.

Maybe someone has more info on the mark as it looks very promising but may only produce after dark.
Its just outside wicklow town, heading south on the dunbur road. Car park beside a golf course. Path and steps leading down to a small cove with large shingles. There's also a small stream running down from the golf course.

Hey,
Thats the "Glen Turn" as it's know locally. Have tried it myself a few times and wasnt good. If you walk the rocks you'll pick up Pollack and a host of the mini species. (Not advised at night!!)
I found the beach itself not very good despite it looking really fishy from the road.

The little strand beside the Black Castle....(Travelahawk)to be honest i havent fished it...but fishing folklore in Wicklow has it that the Castle was a hotspot for Plaice years ago (80's). Have never caught much off it myself and prefer to stroll out the golf course with an uptider, small multiplier and some mussel and rag...you'll get plenty of Wrasse, some Codling, and loads of mini species oh and a few Pollack too.
I usually fish this way to kill a few hours and its good craic.....and a nice walk on a sunny day.

These rocks are as slippy as fook in the wet so wouldnt advise going out when its been raining or that.

Hope that helps?

The black castle used to be the tinny drinking spot in Wicklow as well. Travelahawk can be murdered by weed.

Glen turn has zero tide run, is shallow in that you can walk out at low water and is sheltered. I used to snorkle it as young lad with loads of flats and fish but you'd be luck to see a crab these days. The place is heavily potted these days which will devestate an area. Rocks out to brides head get fished but I've never had much luck there
