Passage East safe?

#1 Post by somedose »

Lads I was just wondering if Passage East in Waterford is 'safe' to fish at the moment? I used to fish there loads but after the ban on gill netting anglers were run out of the place (cars had tires slashed, windscreen broken and anglers were physically intimidated). Anyone fished tthere recently? It's a great place for codling and whiting as well as flatties

I had a bad experience near there last winter.
me and a mate were fishing nearby Cheekpoint. We go down every year for the cod run but usually stay nearer the city. well it was our first time fishing Cheekpoint and expectations were running high.
when we got there we parked sensibly, made sure there were no no fishing signs, took our gear and went to the end of the small pier and set up.

we were there about an hour and taking a steady stream of flounder and whiting and happy, i was baiting up when a small white car-van drove onto the pier. i looked up instictively when i seen the lights, the guy drove straight for us so i done what any self respecting angler would do...... i put myself between the car and the expensive tackle he was about to run over. thinking he couldn't see the gear on the ground i gave it the waving arms routine. he came straight for me, i had to jump out of the way and he intimidatingly stopped suddenly just before the tackle.

you nearly ran me over i told him, to which he replied we had no right coming down from dublin to 'pleasure fish' when it was us (and he meant us personally) had brought about the drift net ban.
we said sorry mate but no excuse to nearly run someone over. he then went on to say he was the harbour master, but only got more irrate when we asked for ID.

this idiot then told us he would be back in an hour and there would be trouble, at this stage i was loosing my rag (not bait) so i told him in no uncertain terms if he seen us again it would be with an ian golds tripod stuck up his ass (with legs extended)

just thought I'd share.......
