Pulley Rig

I want to tie a few clipped down pulley rigs.

I'm planning to use 60lb line with 25lb hook length. The hook will be "clipped" to an impact shield just above the lead.

My question is: How long do I make the hooklength. I originally thought about using a 500mm long hooklength with a 700mm long trace. I'm worried however that if I make the hooklength too short there is a danger of it breaking when I cast as it will effectively be carrying the lead when it is clipped to it. Am I worrying unnecessarily?

I'm not sure that I explained my problem terribly well.

the hook would pull the shield up the trace if pressure was applied (i think) and put the pressure back on the 60lb line.

if you look on the tsf website[under video] steve allmark makes a pulley rig from scratch that should keep you right mate .its the one about MINNUS BAY ,i personally would step the rig body up to 80lb though.

i picked up a nice tip at the foyle fishing festival, witch you could use.
when tieing up your rig add in an SRT SPRING,
i have tryed them and they work great....

Were do you put the SRT on the pully?

sorry samo should have said in my post, on the pulley rig i tie in another snood, this is the one with the SRT..

Above is how I make my Pennel Pulleys for Bass. (You hopefully will be able to follow it ...lol)
Your main line is connect to the trace via the <loose barrel swivel> which is connected to your main trace body 60lb/80lb, so if your 20lb flouro Carbon snood was to break mid cast your lead is still attached to mainline and wont 'fly off' so to speak. Ive never seen a Pennel pulley break while casting.

Snood lenght will depend on conditions strenght of tide etc, also if your missing bites on a long snood, shorten it and vise versa.

Nice idea danny tying on the other snood. Do ya have any problems with it, tangles etc.I presume you clip the two hooks into the same clip there on the shield.

Yeah the loose hook would be put through the top of the bait and the tied hook come out at the bottom and would be clipped into the clip on the impact lead.
Ive never had a problem with tangles or the like. (touch wood)

The video on TSF confirmed my concerns about snapping the snood on the cast although obviously (now!) the lead won't actually fly off.

No, when you have a fish on the weight will end up against the loose swivel due to the weight/momentum of the fish therefore reducing the risk of the weight snaging while playing the fish.
