About peeler....

I am collecting a lot of peelers at this time and I would like to freeze them for use them in March at Bridlington...
Do you think after a long period of freezing they will stay attractive????

they should stay perfect if you wrap them properly .

Thanks... So it's good, I usually wrap them in cling film and after in a freezing bag....

Take the lungs out before you freeze them.

If they're frozen, what difference would the lungs make?

it all depends on where your picking them!..... where are you picking them????

Hi Aurelien,
you be able to get fresh peeler to take with you in March. I fished there before and fresh out fished everything else.

BTW Take out the lungs, it only takes a few seconds to do.

All of the advice given in angling books & mags say to do this. I presume that they last longer if you do this.

Yes I've read that too in an angling magazine, I was just wondering about the importance of these little things....

the reason for removing the lungs (dead mans fingers) is because they are believed to be toxic and release a potent scent to fish which deters them . you can see what i mean if you have a peeler crab and a softie !! have a look at the lungs of the peeler they will be a filthy brown colour !! but if you look at the lungs of the softie they will be nice and white because when a crab peels it also sheds its lungs and grows a new pair ! ill try and get some pics to explain . hope this helps . cheers, boycie.

The toxins in the lungs also rot the flesh even if frozen, so for the sake of a couple of seconds they are best removed and the area rinsed and then wrapping tight in cling-film ready to freez.

Thanks I've seen on my crabs that their lungs are brown and I was having a few soft and their lungs are white... So I see that it's possible for the toxic explication. I was removing the lungs before fishing before so now I'll take them off before freezing... Thanks for the explication....
