Thanks guys

and a big thanks to Eric.

By the way I was looking up Fishbase - No. 7 looks to be an Ornate Wrasse

No. 2 looks ldentical to some grilled "sardines" I was served in a restaurant while in Lanzarote. I also had grilled "parrot fish" in a restaurant there - it looked like a wrasse to me - and tasted much like you would expect a wrasse to taste - ie not very nice.

2. is a bogue (no seriously that is the name), great bait float fished live or dead for cudas.

4. is known locally as a "facio", usually very small but grow big and go like stink!

7 is an ornate wrasse, stunning if very small fish.

I think the small bream may be an annular bream, very common there but in juvenile forms, its almost impossible to be certain bar in counting spines and the like... but I very much stand to be corrected.

Nice ray, well done, where abouts did you fish?
Kieran Hanrahan

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Thanks Kieran,

I fished lots of places, along the northeast coast towards Orzola, the rocks west of Playa de Famara and the beach in the northwest, the rocks south of El Golfo in the southwest, Punta Pechiguera in the south as well as a small pier to the east of the main harbour in Puerto del Carmen.

I will post a report in the next day or so.

Seanie, I was using squid, prawn and mussel. But squid was the most successful, the small fish would just nibble the other baits off the hook. The best way to catch the little guys was to use a piece of squid tentacle impaled on a size 8 or 10 hook just like a worm. I got the ray on a bigger chunk of squid and a moray eel on a prawn/squid cocktail

i was going to say

1-demoiselle or cape verdean(the demoiselle is supposed to have pale spot on each scale, the cape verdean more brown with blue markings)

2-i had no idea but would agree with kieran that its a bogue

3-eagle ray

4-derbio(but would`ve liked to see sides for several darks bars)

5-white sea bream?(it has thinner and more dark bars than zebra bream)

6-hard to see from photo but just looks like shanny!!

7-female sea peacock(checked out latin name and its the same as ornate wrasse found on fishbase )

8-caneva`s blenny
