circle-hooks shore-fishing.

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

do any members subscribe to these hooks, saw a clip on a fishing
programme showing peter-thain and and another guy using them
for general shore work, they semed to be a excellent hook, ie hooking
right in the corner of the fishes mouth, and not way down deep,
i think they were called suntra circle hooks or something like that.

regards steve.

Ask Carpets on this site about them.

He used them in Iceland for Spurdogs from the shore.

I think Veals might also stock them. I picked a bunch of them recently in loads of different sizes but I haven't got around to trying them out yet, I must dig them out and give them a go. Mike Ladle has written a good bit about using them for bass on his website, they seem like a great innovation.

hello dave, quite right mate, anything that can stop a fish from being
gut hooked so to speak is a great idea, they should really work well
with a whole host of species,

I use them for Bassing with bait. Perfect job. You don't have to pay 100% attention to the rod to hit bites right away, the fish more or less hook themselves.

Says a lot about what kind of angler I am............

If breaking in a new beach. fishing flounder checking for collies and dogs hoping for a Bass then hard to beat a semi round hook. I use owner blacks, not sure of the number. Strong enough to take a conger ( I know from experience) not to heavy that a flounder will throw them.

Self hooking, not ot much rod watching needing as tangle rat said above.

They are difficult to bait with worms. they are not match hooks for a flounder beach( the one's I use). I use them in a pennel rig for breaking in beach’s.

Research has given me the longest nights and the biggest smiles. ( to the determent of my match fishing). I once put clove essence into 2lb of rag worm.

After all the talk about circle hooks here recently, I decided to dig out the ones that I've been meaning to use for the last while and give them a go. I only had time for a short session but I was hoping to see how they would work for flatties, however all I got was a doggie although it was perfectly hooked in the scissors. I'm going to try them again later in the week and hopefully catch a few flatties. I'm hoping that they will put an end to my gut hooked flaties.

Sorry for the delay in answering, I lost track of this thread.

I'll put anything on a circle. I know lots of lads don't like using worm bait on them because they find it tricky, but in all honesty it just takes a bit of practice to get presentation right.

Baiting up with live King Rag can be a bit of fun on a dark night, though.
