west cork mark 16-9-08

People:me

Duration:1400-2000

Tide:hw@1805

Weather:sunny with broken cloud

Bait:frozen mack, lug, squid
dd
Rigs:pulley

Results:1 1.5lb trigger, 1 small pollack, 1 dog

Report:

wouldnt have bothered doing a report only for getting the trigger. fished a new mark which i had been given for ray and huss but it was quite today with only a dog showing to the bottom baits. the trigger was interesting.went over to a rock point to cast a shad to see if there was any pollack around, first cast about 8 triggers folloed it back in. this resulted in some frantic rig making.unfortunately they moved off but 2 more moved out from under the overhang i was standing on. these didnt have any interest in the small bits of mackeral i had offered them but seemed more intent in trying to figure out what my swivel was. i even managed to get one to follow it to the surface where it stuck most of its head out of the water.

eventually one of them too the bait and a short fight ensued with me landing my first trigger of the year.only small but glad to get him.

i recast and a big mullet started showing interest in my bait after 2-3 mins of playing with it he eventually took and a firm strike resulted in it running about 30 yards. this fight lasted about 5 minutes when i got him into a shallow bay where i was just about to beach him when he made one last dive and the 6lb hook length parted. i wont repeat what i said  ..looked about 5-6lbs, very broad and deep. was amazing to watch them take the bait in crystel clear water less than a rod length away
