DVICE bait delivery system.

It's a weighted tube that you put your soft baits into to get them out a fair distance without damaging them.

I've seen them a lot on the WSF site but not had a chance to use them yet, so I asked the guy if he'd contact Southside and Henries to see would they stock them.

The lads on WSF rave about them saving the baits being smashed when putting them out over 150 yards.

In any case he's contacted both shops, if anyone is interested I'd suggest checking with Des or Henry in the next few weeks to see if they're in already, I can't wait to give them a try.

Anyone here used them? Anyone got an opinion on them?

to be honest i think there another gimmick to hook us anglers, a smooth casting style is all thats needed, and its not even that you'l be fishing maddies etc at a 150 yards, which is a distance that with bait, most anglers wont hit anyway, myself included.

btw wsf rave on about everything, i don't think ive ever read a bad review of anything in a mag

No, actually I mean the lads on the WSF forums, not the mag itself.
All tackle beyond a simple hook and line on a pole could be called a gimmick at some stage. Looks like an interesting piece of kit to get maddies or the like, out a large distance. I'll let you know when I've tried it out, what it's like.

Looking back, I see you're missing the point a little, this thing makes the bait and weight into the one entity, so it's not like casting with a bait. There's a video there of a bloke at a casting venue hitting 170 with a whole squid in the DVICE.

Point being it's a system that will let you get further distances with bait and stop the bait getting smashed as it hits the water.

the lad who put the squid over the 200 yd mark is a top tournament caster, you and i are not, i cant see the any major differences between, say, a sandeel in the device or a sandeel well presented behind an impact lead, oh there is one, i have complete faith in the impact lead releasing the bait almost every time,

I don't think the same tournament caster would put a bait and impact lead the same distance and still have it all presentable, but anyway, like I said I'll report back, I'm sick of seeing my rag fly one direction and my rig the other.

Ive not seen the ones Eoins talking about but I have got some of the original "Bait Safes" here (Dennis has seen them) they do work, for delicate baits especially, the blast any bait a good distance is going to harm the presentation in some way....maddies, Sandeels etc......they do work. They are not a new idea, the first Bait Safes came out about 20 plus years ago and someone started making them again a couple of years ago in the UK...they are the best ones I've seen. I had loads of them at first but everybody keeps begging them off me, now I'm down to about a dozen my son has loads though

The idea isn't new, the baitsafe was one of the older ones. The principle is similar but these ones just have the bait in a tube and the force of the water ejects the baited hooks.

there is a shop in the uk that sells online and is selling the baitsafe Tom. the Dvice could be useful for putting big crab baits out for cod without wobble. handy for putting out head hooked rag at range for dabs and plaice or putting big maddie baits just over a bank in a strong wind. it lends itself nicely to simpler rigs- instead of up and overs you could just make a one hook paternoster...

i am inclined to agree with Eric for the most part. reckon they have there uses but in choice situations. for the most part a well made clip rig with neat baits will fly anyway...

The price definitely is the main issue with them but they're not 4.50 sterling, the buy it now price is 4.41 euros or 3.50 sterling.

I did see mention recently of a price drop from the guy that makes them, if he wants to make it popular it'll have to come down.

The D-Vice is a superb bit of kit. Will cast a whole mack fillet, chunks of mack/herring a very long way without the need for any bait elastic. Also superb at firing out bunches of (head-hooked) ragworm. I have used them successfully for catching rays on single-hooked herring chunk.

Highly recommended.

was thinking about this device, not only for big baits at
distance, but also could be used on doulble hook rigs, ie bomber ,
pulley wishbone etc,granted a little more time setting youre snood
length to the correct length,would be needed on the pulley rigs,

Have a look on the website there is a rigs section, a few customisations are needed to standard rigs, but the diagrams are pretty clear.

The double pulley rig looks very cool.

Rob - the guy who makes them - is bringing out an uptide version with fixed wires, too. Will be in shops very soon. Hope to look at one tomorrow as meeting him at a fishing meet.

I have been using the Dvice since it was first released and i have to say it is amazing. alot of my fish have come to the dvice. at waterfoot beach two weeks ago i caught a fat flounder on sandeel using the dvice. the only problem thats kinda annoying me and i have yet to figure out a 3 hook rig to fit inside the dvice rather than the single hook pat
