All seems reasonable and non-controversial, untill you think through the implications of this bit:

8. b.

No person shall take part in archery, golf, paint balling or any other game/sport involving high speed projectiles on a beach.


What do you call 4 oz of lead zipping off a reel at 30,000 rpm?

they dont seem to have mentioned angling specifically - but i suppose it could be open to interpretation - all the other sports you would presume are parallel to the beach whereas fishing - depending on how bad your cast is! - should be perpendicular to it

The worry I have is, if we (anglers) ignore it since it's not overtly targetting us then some jobsworth might later interpert it against our interests. And it would be too late then to object to it.......

But seriously it might worth having it clarified that fishing is allowed. Instead of finding out later that a jobsworth say it's not. I know from experience that councils have more than there fair share of them.

I would keep the remarks about fishing being a sport involving high speed projectiles on a beach to a minimum. I think most people have the Idea of a guy sitting in a chair catching nothing. If that’s what they believe I would not be one to change that impression.

I would look for a small amendment to the general part stating that fishing is allowed. nothing more nothing less.

I think the intention of the document is clear, and it does not include angling. wouldn't that have been a more obvious choice than "paint balling"?

It really doesn't help cause of people who bother their orses to campaign to keep areas open for responsible anglers to associate angling with some kind of danger this way when it simply isn't an issue. Effectively, this reads as:

"Since since a 4 oz lead flying up a beach at 30,000 pm is kinda like an golf, can you add fishing in too?"

In my opinion it's not worth clarifying. That's what courts are for in the event of a dispute.

this is a tricky one allright
the way i look at it is, if your doing any of these sports on a beach especially archery and paint balling, then you are trying to hit a certian target, if you miss it, it results in the projectile flying up the beach, witch could be full of people, and could result in someone being badly hurt or worse.
but an angler is casting from the beach, putting his lead out into the open sea, if his cast dose ver off to the left or right a bit, it still wont do any harm to anyone.
