Co. Clare Beach 4/9/08

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

People:me, handbrake (non sai member) and Papa Smirf

Duration:8 - 11:30pm

Tide: high at 9pm

Weather:calm.. very calm.. too calm..

Bait:lug rag sandeel

Rigs:single hooks

Results: 3 flounder

Report: as i had a few ragworm left over from the ventures on the east coast it was time to use them ont he west coast..
to top up the bait there was a quick dig at one of my local spots for lug worm (about 100 in 30 mins)

headed to mark and it was a bit later than i expected, as i wanted to fish more of the incoming tide but you can never predict delays (should have known papa smirf would make us stop for tea :? )
finally got to mark and i was first over the dunes and set up..

very little surf also hindered the fishing.. nice sunset though.. and as the light faded the sand hoppers came out in there millions.. it got to a point where we dug a little hole under one of the tripods and put a bucket in and had a lamp hanging off the tripod.. needless to say it was half full of the little blighter's in no time at all.. they were every where..

no one blanked, but it looked close for handbrake until he pulled out a small flounder on the last cast (didn't even know he had it on)

pretty much an uneventful session, but at least got to use all the rag.. now i have a load of lug to use up, any takers :D:D:D

Well in fairness the other two arn't the fastest of lads.. if i waited for them to get ready i'd probably still be there.. As for fishin blackhead, there was no room to park macky bashers all over the place..

stevecrow74 wrote:every dig [with a pitch fork] produces up to 5 lug,

That is some going - in the spot I usually dig mine on the south coast I get one lug with about every five digs with the fork
OK there is a place where I can get one with almost every fork dig but it is much further to travel.

At least it keeps me fit :D :D
