Report:First of all the B.A.S.S. Club would like to thank Broderick and Gallogley Tiling Contractors for sponsoring this competition. First comp in well over a month and a handy turn out of 14, including myself. Fishing hasn't been great for the last few weeks (rain etc), so with a few days of dry weather hopes were high. But as we were getting ready to set up mackerel started breaking all over the place, so fishing for flounder or bass might be scratchy, we did manage to get some very fresh bait though.
Jamie Santry was the first to catch with a double in his first cast, closely followed by Mark Flemming with a flounder of 43cm.
A half hour in i had to go and collect the pegs and on my ramble i found that the fishing was patchy, the first peg was drawing a blank ( maybe due to the fact that a large shoal of macks were breaking every so often not too far away ) while the 2nd peg had 1 fish in the 1st hr. 2nd was blanking, 3rd had 3 fish and 4th was blanking. I looked up and saw that someone was setting up to fish between my peg and someone else's so i decided to head back. A few minutes after i was back on my peg the guy came over, asked me if we were fishing a comp and when i said yes he packed up and fished elsewhere - which i thought was very considerate of him and if he's reading this, then thank you.
The next cast i had a flounder.
3/4 of an hour later, Brendan O'Regan on the peg next to me reeled in a gilt head bream of 41cm, which surprised nearly all of us because we've never even heard of a bream being caught here!
The rest of the day was patchy, boredom broken up by macks breaking a few feet from the wall every so often and at one stage a couple of guys parking themselves in the middle of 2 pegs, at the center of the comp and leaving after 5 minutes.
1st with 6 flats was Clinton Rackman, 2nd 4 flats Jamie Santry, 3rd 3 flats Mark Flemming, 4th 2 flats Colin Horgan, 5th 2 flats me, 6th 2 flats Pierre Cope, 7th 1 bream Brendan O'Regan. The pool for the longest fish was tied with Mark Flemming and Colin Horgan both catching flounders of 43cm.

Nice report Tom
it was only a matter of time before the giltheads found Youghal harbour, I would imagine it is ideal for them, you might well see them becoming established there in the next few years...

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...
2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Is Bells Wall along the road out to Ferrypoint?
Great to see somebody got a bream out of Youghal Bay - If there is one there then I guess there should be more - something new to target

It was very surprising to catch a bream there, but i was disappointed that there wasn't even a small bass caught.
Fishing in the area should pick up in the next couple of weeks, hopefully in time for our R.N.L.I. open comp on the slob bank on Sunday 21st sept (blatant plug!).

Cortaz has been catching Bream fairly regularly off the Cunnigar in Dungarvan Bay. Youghal Bay does have some similarities so maybe it is not that surprising. Lets hope they become a regular visitor to Youghal
