World Shore Angling Championships in Biarritz (Hossegor)

#1 Post by kieran »

Hi

Anyone know where I can get more information on this - I been in touch with Tom Lillis but he's away on holidays and I do not want to be annoying him - we're all entitled to a break.

Any help, links etc appreciated, thanks
Kieran Hanrahan

Hi Kieran,
fips web site is useless.
http://www.fips-m.com/

What do you need to know?- some of the lads on the forum have fished internationally.

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Was talking to Eugene Farrelly (Reserve) about it last week. He seemed not have a lot of info on it either.

I think they are departing on Thursday 18th of September and the event runs from the 21st until the 28th. I think the first few days are practice and then maybe 3 days of competition.

Best of luck to them !

By the look of it... I think I might have thrown a rod or two there.

All the best to Andy and John from Culdaff SAC.

Right. that photo did it, just have to hide it from the wife!

I must be mad, will have to paint the entire house to make up for it but I've book cheap Ryanair flights and I'm off to see what the best in the world do to catch fish off a beach.

Direct flights from Shannon still available but NOT on the current special offer...

Watch this space...

You'd better bring your tackle and your flatfish rigs!

I'd say probably sunburnt  from been on the beach all day  .

I think it is tomorrow the first comp starts. They have had a few days practice at this stage.

I would imagine conditions will difficult with not a lot of surf and clear skies.

Hi

It appears that there has been some sort of toxic spill in the area, lots of dead fish being washed up and no flatties available at all. Very few fish being caught in the practice session, mostly small bass around 20 cms, scad at night, gars in the day and weavers in the gullies.
Shocking bad. Best quote was from a Welsh anglers - "Yeah, all the beaches around here are very similar, they're all shite!"

World surfing championships were on at the same time, lucky if the boys come back only with sunburn on their legs... and that was before they realised there was a naturalists beach in the competition range. No truth in the scurrulous rumour that the English team decided to fish that pitch several times for practice and not at night... none whatsoever you understand!

Forecast is for overcast skies and little or no effective surf, so a wide mix of good and bad conditions anticipated. Very uneven, lots of blanks expected as there are massive sand bars that will inevitable be right in front of some people's pegs...
