7HT Turbo ~ 6500 Hi Speed

#1 Post by Danny M. »

Well,

Im thinking of getting either a 7HT Turbo or the new 6500 Hi Speed.
I can get either for around 140 euro delived to my door from the UK.

I want it for clean ground long range beach work.

Back ground:
I currently have 2 7HT originals (Black) and honestly cant fault them, Have one of them over 7years and is well used and has never broke down and is still a pleasure to use.
So I have an Idea how the Turbo will fish.

I have never used an Abu of any kind so I dont know what to expect from the Hi Speed.

Any information/opinions on fishing experience with either reel would be greatly appriciated.

(if any one has a second hand 7ht Turbo or 6500 Hi Speed for sale give me a Shout)
Cheers.

I think there has been issues with the 6500 hi-speed with stripping gears..amongst other things with quality control...bearings etc...

have heard nothing but good news about the turbo...140E is a good price for it aswel.

the 6500 hi-speed also recently has dropped in price by £20 in veals for example and you have to ask yourself why? it is supposed to be the flagship of the new range of abu's yet now it is the cheapest? It was designed to compete with the 525 mag yet the 525 (original) is better in every way...

I have handled both reels but havent used them so the above info is just my opinion based on what ive heard...

the 6500 gunmetal would be another option aswel...I have one and cant fault it...

Don't tell me that I've just order a high speed at 99 sterling from veals. :(

I've heard the same alright but thought I'd take a chance on them with the price drop and the sterling rate. I'll be using it for clean ground anyway and will just have to try and use the rod to work the fish in. Saying that I'm used to penn 525s so it won't be easy.

Price drop could be down to the fact that they are no longer giving a "free" berkley line spooling station with them and they are now big sellers for veals so better price for bulk distribution. Well I hope so anyay :D

The turbo still has that dinky little handle that is about as much use as an ash tray on a motor bike. Putting a power handle on them strips the gears as well.

Hi Danny i have used the original 7ht for the last eight years it took all sorts of punishment from a variety of marks and its still in perfect order.I purchased the 7ht turbo earlier this year and i have used it alot. I do find the turbo better than the original it feels much smoother casts better. I would be expecting it to be just as reliable as the old one.No problems so far.Have a good look around on the internet as the prices vary. I think i paid £99 for mine.Hope this helps ya.

The new ones smoother than the old one! after 8 years I would hope so. I don't think you could give a better recommendation to the original if you tried.
