Whats a flyer..?

i usually fish a two hook flapper or two hooks clipped and attach the flyer two the shock leader or main line depending on where i am fishing.i have taken pollock and garfish on the flyer on the main line .the one on the shock leader is attached by a berkley mc mahon snap and swivel works a treat on flounder and the like.cheers

like beachcaster - have the 2 hook clipped/flapper cast out - and the flyer snap link swivel attached to mainline - usually give it about 6 foot to the lead and a foot after or longer to the hook - can cast it a bit if necessary

I know of a few of different rigs which I've heard referred to as 'Flyer rigs' but all essentially they all involve an length of line with a hook on the end which some how slides up or down the mainline and basically lets you to fish at two different depths. Some are attached by a swivel and two beads, others by a scratching boom above the rig, the idea being that they slide back up to the shockleader knot. The other ones I've heard of are what I'd call 'Slide rigs' and are more suited to steep sloping beaches or fishing from higher ground, they are basically clipped onto the mainline after you cast and slide down the line to the water. This is the type I've used myself with some success. I've used a bubble float half filled with water this way, so I could fish a bait right in the suds as well as my main rig further out. There is also a variation on this and I think they are called 'Slideaways' and they are made by breakaway amongst others. These seem to be quite common in Hawaii and Australia and are really quite clever. There design is such that it will only allow them to slide out and wont slide back with the action of the waves.

Ah, I call em something else.

Dont use em though as most of my casts are between 5-20 ft for bass anyway.

dont use the slideaways either - just the cheapo 5 for a euro sliders you get on line - like eoin mainly for the first few feet of water
