Tinaberna Wexford Sunday night 24th

#1 Post by Eoghan »

I get slated for not posting marks etc etc so I am going to break the tradition this once..!
Anyway, tnks to all for the PM's on Waterford. Much appreicated. We chose Wexford in the end.

Conditions : Warm South Westerly, great surf, evening tide. Couldnt be better really.
Bait : 200 King Rag
Rig : Single snood 6/0, 3oz grip

Fished from 8pm til 11.30.
Got to the mark and met an angler who had fished for a few hours but was heading home.
He hadnt had a bite and said the weed was a problem. So we werent expecting much.

Within 20 mins of fishing we had a bass each and countless bites.
We experimented with casts into either side of the sand bar but found the best results were on the sand bar itself. (Approx 20 ft out)

End result between the two of us :

6 Bass to 4 Ib (Smallest was just longer than one of our 6/0's) rest were 2-4Ib
3 flounder - postage stamps

We thought we were in for a great nights fishing but curiously as soon as it turned dark we had no more fish.
Previously this venue only came alive as soon as it got dark.
I did miss one cracking bite around 10pm when I was half asleep looking up at the stars. Rod was nearly pulled from my arms.
Schoolboy error...!

Pics : None
Vids : 1 - will post on U tube on Monday and add link to this. Its a vid of the firsh bass of the night. I took out the camera and opted for a vid. It got too hectic after that for pics as myself and my mate get competitive..! I lost 4-2 on Bass count
Whats seldom is wonderful Steve, enjoy it while it lasts. :x

Don't think it is a good idea to post the exact location on website. If people send you a pm then maybe you could point them in the right direction.

Once word gets around about bass poachers may set nets.

I wouldn't be worried about the nets.... More indiscriminate people who take more than two Bass a day. I know Eoghan has thought this through, so we'll leave the naming of the mark issue there......

It's not a sensitive location for bass netting

Yeah, its the only reason I gave the name of the mark. The beach is miles long etc etc. If it were a smaller mark I wouldnt have said anything. Anyone who knows anything about sea fishing knows the beaches along the wexford coast produce Bass under certain conditions.

Nice fishing eoghan, welldone.

Myself and a pal had thought about fishing that mark on saturday evening but had been pointed in the direction of clones (thanks for that steve crow and salty!!!).

Flounder, whiting and a solitary dog were all we got  no ray, no smoothies, no bass.......must of been the bad bait....atleast thats what we are telling ourselves hey Brian

Yeah was nice to get a few bass in alright. Next 3 months are my fav of the year.
Im off to Kerry too the Weekend of 13th/14th Sept which always produces planty of em.

Im planning a Saturday morning session to Wexford this week. High tide approx 8.30 or so. Have a few marks in mind but dont have bait. I have a few cracking spinning marks down that direction. Will see what way the weather is Friday night and set the clock for 4am...(Ouch)

Hope this works, was that first bass I was talking about.
It was the second cast of the night hence my surprise..!
It got a bit competitive after that so camera was left in pocket but might start taking vids from now on
instead of pics.
