GREYSTONES 29th aug 08

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and big mick

Duration:8pm -10.30pm

Tide:rising

Weather:dd mild humid

Bait:mack,lug
dd
Rigs:dexter wedge, 2 hook flappers

Results:me, 2 mackeral,1 lsd, 6 whiting
big mick, 1 lsd

Report:Went digging lug at Sandymount and as big mick was out at Greystones and i had the rods in the car i decided to join him. He was set up at the rocks near the harbour and had been there an hour or two when i arrived. All was quiet he said with no bites so far. He had mack fillets from Dunnes and i had lug and a mack caught on Sunday night and put in the freezer. I cast out a two hook flapper baited with lug, tipped with mack, and while watching the rod tip i tried a few casts with a lure. This was taken by a mack almost immediately to Big Micks surprise  .

Good sport on the light rod. I got another mack on the two hook flapper as i reeled it in, 2 nil to Dave,,,,the pressure was on Big Mick. For once his luck let him down as i caught fish after fish. Next came a double of a doggie and a whiting,,4 -nil,,,then he got a rattle which turned out to be a doggie for him. I finally proved to him that the whole mack was better than the fillets   Up to now he usually outfished me with Tescos best mack fillets against my whole mackeral and lug and rag dug myself  :? . Another double and three single whiting and i was ready to call it a day,,,,,,digging lug is tiring work

Final score was 9-1 to me 8) 8) 8) ,,,,,,,and he decided to go before i got my tenth   .I've had a string of good sessions now so i only hope it holds out for another while

Well done on the nine fish.

Digging lug is a killer alright - it wouldn't be too bad if you got a big juicy one under each worm cast but half the time there is nothing there. But i guess it is good exercise
