Spear fishing for Bass rules

#1 Post by mann »

A friend of a friend is into snorkelling and from what I hear he can be out for 6 hours at a time.. He has great sport fishing with one of them spear guns.. The under water version of the crossbow,

When I was told that he can come back with 3 or more Bass I asked if there was a difference in the law concerning conservation when it came to his type of fishing.. I was told that he has been doing it for years and that he should know better then me about the rules concerning how many fish he can take,

So to save wasting my time arguing and trying to get him to see my point of view on the rules I just left it at that.. Mainly because I’m not 100% sure of the ruling when it comes to spear fishing, :?

Would I be right in saying he has to abide.. As we do with 2 fish in any 24 hour period,

I must add that I don’t keep many of the fish I catch as I enjoy catching them a lot more then killing them,

I think I might get my point across to him and his friend if I show it to him in print.. so any reply be it proving me right or wrong will be printed out and given to him to show to his friend,

Thanks in advance. 8)

4. Subject to Article 5 of this Bye-law it is hereby prohibited to take and kill
or have in possession more than 2 bass (other than imported bass) in any period
of twenty-four hours and such bass which may be taken shall be carefully handled
and returned to the water from which they were taken.

It's considered unsporting at the least to spearfish while using scuba, may also be illegal, but in any case at the least it's frowned upon as unethical.
