Wexford Bass 22-08-08

#1 Post by Danny M. »

People:Myself and Carpets

Duration:4hours

Tide:over the rise

Weather:nice for a change

Bait:Lug

Rigs:Pennel Pulley 3/0

Results: Myself 14 Bass
Carpets 3 Bass

I havnt put up a report in awhile due to my own laziness of not typing out a report 3 times a week, I dont like putting up short reports !
Anyway the youngfella is eating his breakfast here so I have a couple of minutes to spare.

Hit our favourite Bass mark last night as the tide was high in the 'Golden Hour' and the tempreture was bang on the button..
On arrival it was still quite bright and the amount of Bass we witnessed chasing bait fish was unreal, 10 yards from the shore it was a feeding frenzy (of course we had left the spinning gear at home  ). I even waded out to my knee to take a look at them, They didnt seem to mind me standing in the middle of them 8) and the water was gin clear! I have never seen anything llike it.

Anyway onto the fishing first cast 10yard lob, rod in hand and bang a ferocus take, I struck and the fight ensued with a bit of drag adjust on the way I beached the first fish of the session, a lovely conditon schoolie and he tipped the scales at 3lb 10oz. I got the Camera out for a quick picture, Carpets got one shot and then the batteries died....absolute disaster  .....Typical.
From here on in it was rod in hand stuff and fish were attacking the baits with real venom.

I had one very timid bite which I struck into and line began stripping from the reel :!: :!: with a severe bend in the rod I managed to turn the fish a then it went slack....fish gone.Reeled in and took a look at my trace, the bottom hook had pulled out of the knot, I wasnt happy.......
Carpets was using Braid on his multi and the Bass really do hit hard when you see them take a static bait on braid woo hoo
It was strange as Carpets was fishing 15yards to the right of me on the featureless beach and wasnt getting the same action even though he was using same bait etc.

Longest fish of the session was a 63cm beaut who was trying his best to tail walk !
And I also broke my personal best for this mark to take it to 14 Bass in one session.

Anyway ive typed enough now.

Cracking fishing lads.

Strange, but all to familiar, how just 50 yards can make that much difference to the results :?

Heading down that way this coming weekend.

Any tips/marks greatly appreciated, or if your up for a meet even better, I'll be down with corbyeire and probably saltydog

Dan, Why weren't you at the Stores with the rest of the folks from work? (Just jealous, I couldn't go there or fishing as I was minding the smallest one).

Next time call, and I'll come get one for the pot too.

Thats some session, well done. :D :D

I would say there was someting about the braid the fish didnt like, perhaps they can feel the resistance or see the braid.
