Connemara Co. Galway 21.08.08
People: nige, stevecrow74 & myself
Duration: 17:00-22:30
Tide: rising
Weather: best day we've had in a very long time wind W/NW
Bait: mack, squid, sandeel
Rigs: various
Results: nige-blank, steve-blank, me 1 doggie 4 mackerel
Report: arrangements were made to meet the lads up around Cleggan, when i arrived at the mark the lads were in the process of breaking down their gear. The water was very coloured with all the rain we are having there was a lot of peat in the water overflowing from the river/land. Steve suggested we try a mark over towards Renvyle where he'd caught some monster ray previously. So off we went around some twist and turns some of which were a bit hairy!! Arrived at the mark to see it was fairly busy coouple of swimmers surfers etc. We walked down the beach to an unoccupied part and set up, i went to tighten the line with a little flick out and everything went pear shaped crack off and horrendous birdy  whilst i was changing reels poor steve was waiting to cast standing at the waters edge rod baited when two little kids came along and stood 4ft in front of him playing in the surf. While steve stood there looking for their parents and getting more frustrated. Myself and nige started fishing. Hours past by no action tide filled and the light dropped still no action :? We were all thinking blankety blank, i rebaited with sandeel and squid cast out the lead hadn't hit the bottom when i felt a pull ....then another put the reel in to gear and sure enough something was on reeled in to find two decent mackerel on each hook. I took the opportunity to (rub it in) remind the lads well at least i haven't blanked. This was meet with a chorus of they're bait fish they don't count, ah yeah but we're not in a competion now i said  more time past with no fish showing i went to reel in to check my bait when i got hit two more good sized mackerel :) which were greeted with the same response "bait fish" i didn't care at least i had some fresh bait / tea :) we rebaited then played a game of destroy that piece of paper with stones (the fishing was really slow in fairness) then i had a couple of better more aggressive bites in true doggie manner. Nige and Steve had reeled in and were breaking down when i got another thump fish on and a doggie came in i took the opportunity to (rub it in) remind the lads that the doggie on the end of my line was no bait fish  met with "f*ck ya you jammy git" i went home happy enough the lads found some solice in the chipper in Oughterard :?

its strange that there is no mention of your first cast that ended up with you changing reels and sitting down for an hour occupied with stripping line!!
