Spent a couple of hours at Blackhead last week - on the "flats" then another rock mark. The flats were disgustingly dirty - a disgrace in a beautiful part of the country.
The rock mark was deserted and gave some nice pollock.
The estuary around Ballyvaughan seemed very productive but I did not have time to fish it. Does anyone know the sort of fish it holds "on the bottom"?

''The flats were disgustingly dirty - a disgrace in a beautiful part of the country. '' Could not have put it better myself. Conditions at nearby Ballyryan are little better.
With regard to Ballyvaughan, there are plenty of mullet around the harbour area. These can be seen cruising around most days at high tide.
Elsewhere in that area, I have only caught small flatfish when bottom fishing.

I have never caught a mullet (or tried) but will try next time. Thanks for the reply.

Couldn't agree more in relation to the filth. All the popular rock marks around Ballyvaughan/North Clare are in a disgusting state. I don't know who's responsible but I've a fair idea. Savages. I'm sure it's the same story in South Clare...the Blue Pool and Bridges of Ross must be in a right mess.

Before the eastern invasion, all the complaints were aimed at Limerick lads (and Dublin, probably, when I was gone  ) now it is the Polish, but I can confirm Locals do it too. Most people complaining here are as fussy as me when it comes to litter but a few feet of line here and mackerel lure packaging there multiplied by the hundreds of blokes fishing popular spots like Black Head Ballyreen and Castle rock added to the Lidel larger bottles and Disposable BBQs and the place looks like a tip and everyone thinks someone else did it...........Anyway I know I am preaching to the Choir here but I agree it is a shame to see some of the most spectacular scenery on earth spoiled. I put my hand on a F*****g used tampon the other day at Ballyreen!!!
